Duns Lookup
Did you know the most widely used identifying number for businesses in the U.S. is the DUNS Number?
The Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS Number) consists of a nine-digit number that is unique to each company registered. More than 50 global, industry, and trade associations recommend and/or require that businesses have one.
Here are three simple steps to look up your DUNS Number and how to obtain one if your company is not listed.
Step 1
Go to the DUNSFile website and enter your business name, city, and state in the search box and then click on the next tab.
Keep in mind you can always click on the Live Chat Online tab if you need additional help or have specific questions.
Step 2
Click on the tab that you believe is a close match to your company name so you can request access to your Dun and Bradstreet credit file.
Now if your company does not show up in the search results than most likely you’re not listed with DNB, so the next step would be to get your:
DUNS Number
Keep in mind that if you’re company moved at one point you may see the previous city and state listed so make sure you keep an eye out for this as well.
Step 3
If you do find a match then the next step is to request access to your file. To prevent others from accessing your file, DNB has a verification process you must complete prior to receiving access.
Upon completing the verification process successfully, DNB will send you an email with your company’s login information to iUpdate.
DNB iUpdate allows you to update and view your business credit report at anytime without causing an inquiry to your report.
Remember, a DUNS lookup is the first step, now you need to start establishing business credit. In order to generate a business credit score (Paydex Score) your business must have at least three trade lines reporting.
This is the initial stage of building a creditworthy company.
